Petrol Prices

The prices of petrol here in Perth and like the rest of the country are rising so fast, you would think that the Rudd Government would consider cutting the tax on petrol. I also wondered if fuel watch would keep prices competitive. The news today are reporting that possibly fuel watch could have the opposite affect and is the cause of pushing prices up higher.

Well, regardless I believe our state government should review our prices in comparison the petrol companies profits and the prices of petrol around the world.

With all respect Rachael, what ever happened to free markets. Governments reviewing prices, come on.

We need to get use to expensive oil, in order to change our buying habits.

I believe there should be some sort of accountability made by the government of the very rich oil companies. I am all for free markets but not to just line the pockets of a few that constrict supply in order to maintain profits. It should be clear and transparent why petrol prices are so pricey. I am paying $1.72 for diesel because I am trying to be fuel efficient and I pay more per litre?

The problem with trying to change buying habits. There needs to be an alternative, a reasonable alternative. We should have more access to hybrid cars, as US residence do. How can I, a mother with a family ride a bike to the shops and drop my child off at school? Its just plan silly...to expect everyday Australians to change our habits drastically to make any difference? Unless the Government increases taxes for fuel inefficient cars...but again who are we really allowing their pockets to be lined?
